About

This blog is a collection of recent neuro-news, pop science style articles, technical comments on published journal papers and anything else that enters my head. All should be about the brain.

The title ‘neuronism’ refers to the Neuron Doctrine: the belief that the neuron is the fundamental information-processing unit in the brain. What begins as simple computations by these devices end up as body movements, thoughts and feelings. Although the inital idea proposed by Cajal over one century ago has since been modified and expanded (see “The Neuron Doctrine, redux“), the basic tenet still stands.

I’m currrently a student on the Neuroinformatics PhD program at Edinburgh University. In my research I use stochastic models of neurons to try to understand the impact of neural noise on single-cell computation.

Feel free to leave any comments or criticisms on the posts. If you need to contact me directly, my googlemail username is codonn. I leave the challenge of formulating the full address in your capable hands (and hopefully not the virtual mitts of those shady spambots).
